The story began with (Late) Padma Shri Inder Sharma, whose vision was not to build empires, but to bring people closer. His pioneering spirit was rooted in a simple belief—that travel could connect cultures, create understanding, and enrich lives. From this belief, a remarkable journey began.
Through SITA World Travel (1950–2000), Padma Shri (Late) Inder Sharma transformed Indian tourism into a global force. More than a travel company, SITA became the face of India to the world—offering curated experiences that inspired trust, admiration, and respect. Under his leadership, SITA not only took India to the world, but also brought the world to India.
In 2001, the baton was passed to Kuoni Reisen of Switzerland. It was not the end of an era, but a dignified transition—marking the close of one chapter while ensuring the legacy of SITA continued to shine on the global stage.
Founded in 2002 by the (Late) Padma Shri Inder Sharma along with his son Mr. Arjun Sharma and a group of industry stalwarts, the Select Group was conceived as more than a business—it was a vision to build enduring institutions across travel, hospitality, retail, and lifestyle. Anchored in integrity, excellence, and long-term value creation, the Group steadily evolved into a respected, diversified enterprise with award-winning hospitality assets, landmark retail destinations, and ventures spanning agriculture and technology. Inder Sharma’s passing in 2017 marked the end of an era, but not the end of the vision he so thoughtfully built.
Today, that legacy is carried forward with clarity and conviction by Mr. Arjun Sharma - who is the Chairman and custodian of the group. Blending the wisdom of the past with a progressive outlook, he has expanded the Group into new arenas while remaining true to its founding values. With a strong focus on sustainable growth, innovation, and people-centric experiences, the Select Group continues to build with purpose—its legacy firmly in capable hands, and its future confidently underway.

Our Leadership
In 1953, a young man named Inder Sharma entered the tourism industry—as a humble transfer assistant. Just two years later, he was handpicked by SITA World Travel Inc., New York for a prestigious six-month training program in Travel Management in the USA.
When he returned to India in 1956, he didn’t just come back with knowledge. He brought back a vision. He opened SITA’s first office in India, laying the foundation for what would soon become the country’s most iconic travel brand. From 1956 to 1963, he served as Regional Manager (India), and was later promoted to Vice President, Asia.
By 1963, SITA World Travel Inc. had evolved into an Indian private limited company—with Mr. Sharma as its Managing Director. Under his leadership, SITA India didn’t just grow—it soared. By 2000, it boasted 23 offices across India and 9 international marketing offices, redefining the travel landscape for an entire generation.
Armed with a Master’s in Economics from Delhi University, Inder Sharma built not only a remarkable professional journey but also a strong personal foundation. Married to Dr. Aruna Sharma, he was a proud father to Neeraj and Arjun. His vision, however, extended far beyond the travel industry.
Alongside his children, Arjun and Neeraj, he co-conceived what would go on to redefine the retail landscape in India—Select CITYWALK, now Nexus Select CITYWALK—together with Mr. Yogi Arora, Chairman of Aarone Group. More than just a mall, it stands today as a landmark destination and a benchmark for modern retail in Delhi and the NCR region.
Some leaders build companies; he built a legacy.
Arjun is the Chairman of Select Group, where his leadership has shaped some of India’s most iconic destinations—most notably Nexus Select CITYWALK and Heritage Village Resorts & Spa in Goa and Manesar. In 2003, alongside his family, he created Select CITYWALK, widely recognised for industry-leading sales per square foot and for introducing several international brands to India.
Two decades later, in 2023, he led its transformation into Nexus Select CITYWALK through a landmark partnership with global private equity firm Blackstone.
Today, Nexus Select CITYWALK is part of Nexus Select Trust, India’s first shopping centre REIT, comprising 19 Grade-A malls across 15 cities, along with three hotels and three office assets, aggregating approximately ~1.3 million sq. ft. of gross leasable area—making it the country’s largest organised shopping-centre platform. Arjun serves as Vice Chairman and Non-Independent Director of Nexus Select Mall Management Pvt. Ltd., where he works along with his partner Blackstone in co-managing the trust, with a stated vision to significantly scale the retail portfolio by 2030.
Building on a strong legacy in travel and tourism, Arjun Sharma was deeply involved with SITA World Travel, founded by his father, Padma Shri (Late) Inder Sharma. As head of the inbound division, he led SITA to become India’s number one destination management company, earning multiple national and international awards in the process. Following SITA’s acquisition by Kuoni in 2000, he continued to lead the inbound business under the Kuoni banner, successfully retaining its top position in India’s inbound tourism market. In 2005, he acquired Le Passage to India and, through a strategic 50-50 joint venture with TUI AG, transformed it into India’s number 1 inbound travel company, once again winning numerous national awards for excellence.
As Chairman and Chief Vision Officer of Select Holiday Resorts Pvt. Ltd., Arjun continues to steer the Group’s hospitality and lifestyle ventures. Beyond business, he is deeply committed to philanthropy—serving as Chairman of the Board of Governors at The British School, and supporting initiatives in child education, street animal welfare, and rural development through organisations such as Chintan (No Child in Trash), Amaraah Foundation, the Pt. Kanshi Ram & Pt. Kirpa Ram Trust, and the Inder Sharma Foundation. A proponent of wellness and lifelong learning, his interests span golf, art, books, yoga, meditation, and Vedanta. Arjun’s leadership reflects a rare balance of strategic foresight and human values—focused not just on building enterprises, but on nurturing purpose and impact.
Behind every great man is often a woman who leads quietly—with strength, grace, and purpose. Dr. (Mrs.) Aruna Sharma, wife of the (Late) Inder Sharma—the only travel professional in India to receive the Padma Shri for his contribution to tourism—has lived a life marked not by titles, but by service.
A General Physician with an M.B.B.S. from the University of Delhi (1960), her medical journey began long before retirement was even a thought. From Lady Hardinge Medical College to the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), she served selflessly, retiring as Chief Medical Officer in 1991. But retirement didn’t slow her down. It only gave her more time to give back.
Since then, she has continued her life’s mission at the Delhi Commonwealth Women’s Association Medical Centre (Zamrudpur)—providing nearly free healthcare to those with little to nothing. Six days a week. No spotlight. Just service. Under the ‘Pandit Kanshi Ram and Pandit Kirpa Ram Charitable and Welfare Trust,’ she and Padma Shri Inder Sharma also set up ‘Guruji Ki Dispensary’ in their ancestral village of Lalowal, Punjab. Today, it treats 30–35 patients a day, offers subsidised medicines, and hosts weekly dental and eye clinics—making rural healthcare accessible where it's needed most.
In 2016, she donated a fully equipped ambulance with a ventilator to The Salvation Army Mac Robert Hospital—because saving lives shouldn’t wait for infrastructure. Alongside her husband, she has traveled the world. But her greatest journeys have been the ones rooted in empathy, medicine, and community care. Today, she lives a life of active retirement—still reading, still contributing, and still healing in more ways than one.
