Inder Sharma Foundation

The Inder Sharma Foundation (ISF) was registered initially as International Fellowship Foundation of India on 17 Dec 1970. The name was subsequently changed and re-registered as ISF, on 11 May 2005. As a doyen of the travel industry, (Late) Mr. Inder Sharma, Chairman, Select Group, envisaged a role to promote national integration, international goodwill and brotherhood, through the travel industry, via this Trust. It also included educational support for the needy from humble backgrounds.
To achieve its basic goal, the ISF has regularly supported seminars, chairs and guest lectures by stalwarts of the tourism industry, with a view to impart knowledge and experience to budding graduates and new entrants, in the tourism sector. (Late) Mr. Inder Sharma, a life time Honorary Professor of the Travel Institute at Jhansi, himself takes great pride in addressing youth at various tourism institutes and forums, when his schedules and health permits. Some of the initiatives he has supported through ISF in his lifetime are:

  • The Annual Som Nath Chib Memorial Lecture on Tourism perspectives.
  • An annual scholarship to the student exceling in the tourism course at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra
  • A similar annual scholarship at ITTM Institute-Gwalior

ISF continues to support Institute of Hotel Management, Catering & Nutrition via an annual monetary award for the best student, as Chairman’s motivational impetus to achieve excellence by children graduating from this institute in his ancestral hometown district of Gurdaspur, in rural Punjab.

Children being very close to his heart, ISF today has and continues to actively support education of children from humble backgrounds at school, college and vocational courses. The most recent product of this outreach is Neha, who has successfully completed her 3.5 years Nursing Degree course from The Salvation Army Nursing School, Dhariwal, Punjab, in May 2017, and is now looking for job opportunities in reputed hospitals.

ISF also supports education of a maximum of two children per employee of Select Group, in the lower salary bandwidth. This welfare outreach was started in 2008, to ease the burden on paying school fees or purchase of books or even tuitions. To date approx. 500 children have benefited by this motivational initiative. The gesture is deeply appreciated by the beneficiaries. Mr. Arjun Sharma also incorporated this grant as a policy in his travel conglomerate, Le Passage to India in 2011 and met with a similar positive response.
